RACE & MJ Kinane Golf Classic 2009
6th Jul 2009

Martinstown Stud reclaim RACE Golf Classic trophy

The Martinstown Stud team put in an impressive performance to once again win the RACE / Michael Kinane Golf Classic held last Tuesday on the PGA National course at Palmerstown House.

The Martinstown team of Kieran McManus, Ian Murphy, Niall Kearns and Ronan Flood (caddie to Padraig Harrington) posted an impressive score of 88 points to improve on their fourth place finish of last year and reclaim the perpetual trophy they first won in 2007 as well as earning first prize of overnight golf packages to Carton House.

The Irish Jockeys Association team of Ken Whelan, John Cullen, David Casey and Andrew Coonan ran them close in testing conditions but had to settle for second place, trophies and golf wear with a score of 84 points.

Only a better score on the back nine separated the next three teams of Mount Carmel Medical Group, Caroline Norris (who included Kieren Fallon on her team) and JP Greely's team which included Dessie Scahill and Michael O'Donoghue. All returned home with valuable golf equipment as consolation prizes.

Twenty eight teams lined up for the shotgun start at the challenging Palmerstown layout which was in great shape and earned warm praise from all the participants.

After the golf and drinks, a most enjoyable day was rounded off with an excellent meal and entertainment from RTE personality Aonghus McAnally who offered some interesting observations on industry figures as he conducted the prize-giving in his own unique style.

The 2009 RACE / MJ Kinane Golf classic returned to the wonderful PGA National course at Palmerstown House last tuesday where the JP McManus team from Martinstown Stud emerged victorious.

The team included Kieran McManus, Niall Kearns, Ian Murphy and Ronan Flood who is well known as Major winner Padraig Harrington's caddy. Scoring 88 points in windy conditions was an excellent return especially on a course as challenging as The PGA.

The Irish Jockey Association followed closely behind in second on 84 points while only better back nices seperated third to fifth on 79 points with Mount Carmel Medical Group coming in third followed by the Caroline Norris team and the JP Greely team.

Twenty eight teams lined up for the shotgun start at midday and after the golf and drinks, a most enjoyable day was rounded off with an excellent meal and entertainment from RTE presenter and producer Mr. Aonghus McAnally.
