International flavour on campus
6th Jul 2009
RACE has seen the arrival of a selection of international students who will gain valuable training and work experience in the Irish racing industry. Five Japanese students from the Bloodhorse Training Centre (BTC) in Hokkaido received scholarships to attend RACE and arrived in April for a three-month stay.
These were joined in May by five apprentices from Turkey and an apprentice from India. The international students benefit from the training facilities here as part of a specialized programme, receiving riding instruction and using the new sports analysis equipment to their advantage, along with language classes and a fitness & conditioning programme which allows them to really work on improving their performance. The students also get to experience the racing industry in Ireland first hand by taking up workplace training with Irish racehorse trainers and attending race meetings.
