Sonic Sullivan on the move
18th Feb 2010

James Sullivan (grad. 2004) has been making an impression since his move to England last year and he shone at Southwell on 16th February when producing Trans Sonic to win the 1m handicap on the all-weather track.

The James Hetherton-trained seven-year-old was given a fine ride by Sullivan, who kept his mount going in great style when strongly challenged by Mozayada entering the final furlong to win by a length and a quarter and defy the 6lb penalty he received for his recent course success.

The previous day, Westmeath-born Sullivan had scored at Wolverhampton when Obe Brave took the first division of the 7f handicap for Northern Ireland trainer Lee Smyth, the 7-1 shot picking up well to win by three quarters of a length from Ride A White Swan.

21-year-old Sullivan was formerly apprenticed to James Burns on the Curragh and has ridden for a variety of trainers since moving to the UK, including Mick Easterby and Pat Morris, collecting 5 winners from 29 rides so far this year.
