First bad break for Hughes
A four-year run of magical good fortune enjoyed by Brian Hughes (grad. 2002) came to a painful end for the former champion conditional jump jockey, who broke a bone for the first time in his career on 25th August. Brian fractured his right collarbone in a pile-up at Sedgefield and will be sidelined for four weeks. “I know it looked a bad fall but as it’s only my right collarbone that’s damaged I regard myself as very fortunate”, said Hughes, stable jockey to Alan Swinbank. His mount, Itsallyours Al, was involved in a three-horse melee when falling three out in the selling handicap hurdle. “I consider myself most fortunate in that I’ve bneen riding for four seasons and this is the first time I’ve fractured a bone”, added Brian.
